From Dr Nnamdi P Ewuzie 18th December 2011

Dear Collegues, I recieve the death of Prof Ezeilo with inmense humility and reflections. I learned physiology in 1982 - 1984 years from Ezeilo and others and graduated MBBS (NiG.) in 1987. Professor Ezeilo along with sages like Prof Onuaguluchi, Majarossi, Reid, Prof (Mrs ) Udeh impacted on generations of medical students of the University of Nigeria that critical foundation in basic medical sciences that underpines the best clinical practice. As an anaesthetist/intensivist I always look back on the knowledge I acquired from these great men and women. The confidnce I exhibit in my practice today all stem from those teaching I recieved from Gabriel Ezeilo and his collegues . I still have the Physiology textbook which we propulary referred to as EZEILO AND GREENE. Best teachings on physiology of blood cells with special emphasis on sickle cell disease is right there in this text by our own dear Prof Ezeilo. My sincere sympathy to Ikenna and all the Ezeilo family and indeed those generations of Medical Doctors who will miss Prof Ezeilo greatly. May his soul rest in peace.
