From Hyacinth Uzoma 18th December 2011

Ikenna My dear, I join you and your family in mourning the loss of a very learned and down-to-earth professor. I was directly instructed by professor Ezeilo as part of the 1988 class and was excited when I learnt in 1995 that he was coming to Malawi to join a few other Nigerian professors, including professor Faparusi, to help develop the fledgling medical school of that country. I was disappointed when the arrangement did not come through before I left that country in 1998, for I would have had the opportunity to interact more closely with my cherished professor. I was working in one of the hospitals in Malawi as a medical officer, in the same city as the medical school. There were few Nigerians in Malawi at that time, and we were like family. Although we are all destined to pass away someday, it nonetheless wells up emotions in us when a loved or cherished one dies. The explanation is not far-fetched why this is so, for we introject parts of our loved ones and make them part of our own being. When such a loved one passes on, it is as if part of us is gone. That is how I am feeling, learning of the death of Professor G.C Ezeilo. I will need time to process and overcome this loss! Please take heart knowing that you and your family are not alone for we share your sorrow and pain at this time. I also join your friends and well-wishers to pray that the Gates to the Kingdom of the Most High God be opened widely for the smooth entrance therein of the soul of your father, where he will enjoy Eternal peace and bliss, and may God grant your family the fortitude to go through and overcome this trying period. Sincerely, Hyacinth Uzoma, MD Attending Psychiatrist.
